Accessibility and Colors

The color samples below are no longer accurate due to systemic changes in the color profiles of the site.

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCGA) have three levels of text legibility: A, AA, AAA. A is very basic and AAA is incredibly strict. So when someone is referring to a site being “Accessible” they almost always mean that it meets AA standards for contrast.

Also, the standards for Headlines are less strict than for body text. Larger text is easier to read and makes contrast less of an issue.

Results:

It’s not great. The fun colors of the brand (light green, orange, and baby blue) are all too light to be used as text. The Baby Blue is just usable for headlines. However. The Brand standards have Orange and Light Green titles, which fail accessibility tests as headlines on white. We can tweak them a little…
